Ombudsman: Three children, their mother return from occupied territory to Ukrainian-controlled area

It was possible to return three minor children and their mother to the territory controlled by the Ukrainian government, Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights Dmytro Lubinets said.

"After a year under occupation, three Ukrainian children and their mother are finally home in the territory controlled by the Ukrainian government. The minors were returned as part of the implementation of the approved action plan of President of Ukraine Bring Kids Back UA," Lubinets said on Telegram channel on Monday.

According to him, while in the temporarily occupied territory, "they were in dangerous conditions: they threatened to take the children away from their mother, and the minors were forced to study according to Russian educational standards. So they lived for almost a year under temporary occupation in Donetsk region."

After the relatives contacted the Ombudsman's Office, preparations for the return began immediately. "Despite all the difficulties and threats, thanks to the coordinated work with partners, Caritas Ukraine and Rokada, it was possible to organize a safe route for this family, as well as provide humanitarian needs for them in the territory controlled by the Ukrainian government," Lubinets said.
