MP Odarchenko reportedly escapes abroad
Ukrainian MP Andriy Odarchenko, a member of the Servant of the People faction who was put on a wanted list following a failure to appear in court on the case of providing undue benefit to senior officials, has reportedly escaped abroad, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) has said on Wednesday.
"According to preliminary operation data from NABU detective, an incumbent Ukrainian MP, who was charged with providing undue benefit to senior officials in the sphere of restoration, has violated the procedural obligations imposed on him and illegally crossed the state border," it said on the Telegram channel.
As reported, on September 18, the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO) put on wanted list Ukrainian MP Andriy Odarchenko who did not appear in the High Anti-Corruption Court (HACC) on September 18, 2024. He is charged with providing undue benefit to Head of the State Agency for Restoration and Infrastructure Development of Ukraine Mustafa Nayyem.
According to SAPO, the MP did not report any reasons for his absence to the court and the prosecutor. Also, his defense team was unable to tell the location of their client, saying that they could not reach him.
"Taking this into account, the prosecutor raised in court the issue of recovering in the income of the state bail, determined as a measure of restraint to the MP, imposing a monetary penalty on him, as well as declaring him wanted," it said.
Both NABU and SAPO did not mention the name of the MP in their statements. Judging by the case's background, it is Odarchenko.
