Ukraine shoots down 35% of Shahed with MANPADS, needs more air defense systems, interceptors – Zelenskyy
The Ukrainian defense forces shoot down 35% of Shahed kamikaze drones with man-portable air defence systems (MANPADS), President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said on Friday, adding that the country, however, needs more such and other air defense systems and interceptors.
"We use various types of MANPADS on the battlefield. Some 35% of all Shaheds. That is our analytics, and it is accurate, because we have developed a digital platform of all Shaheds, all drones, launched by Russia against us, against our civilian infrastructure. We shot down 35% with MANPADS," he said at the 20th meeting of the Yalta European Strategy (YES).
At the same time, the head of state pointed at the shortage of artillery systems in Ukraine, which depends on imports and partners' assistance. In addition, there are difficulties with FPV drones.
Zelenskyy also said that Ukraine has Patriot air defense systems, but they are not enough, "but, thank God, the reality is more positive than the official information."
"And here, thank God and our teams, and our partners, First of all, Patriot or IRIS-T, or other our systems, HAWKS and so on – they all work and it is important to ensure that they work with missiles. We constantly lack interceptors," he said.
