Mykola Tochytsky appointed as Culture Minister

The Verkhovna Rada has appointed Mykola Tochytsky as Minister of Culture and Strategic Communications, MP Yaroslav ZheleznIak (Holos faction) said on the Telegram channel.

According to him, 252 MPs voted in favor of Tochytsky's appointment at a plenary session on Thursday.

As reported, Tochytsky was Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine from April 2024 before being appointed Minister of Culture, and before that, from September 2021, he was Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs. In 2005-2008, Tochytsky was Consul General of Ukraine in San Francisco (USA), in 2016-2021 he was the Ambassador of Ukraine to Belgium, as well as in Luxembourg and representative of Ukraine to the European Union.

On July 27, 2023, the Verkhovna Rada supported the resignation of Oleksandr Tkachenko from the post of Minister of Culture and Information Policy, after which the Cabinet of Ministers on July 28 appointed Rostyslav Karandeyev as Acting Minister. In January 2024, Karandeyev said he had not received any offers to become a minister.

In 2023, after Oleksandr Tkachenko's resignation, former head of the Ukrainian Cultural Foundation Yulia Fediv was considered for the post of Culture Minister.
