Number of victims of Russian missile strike on rehabilitation center in Sumy up to 18 people
The Sumy Regional Prosecutor's Office is investigating the fact of the Russian missile attack on the children's rehabilitation center in Sumy, as a result of which 18 people were injured, the press service of the prosecutor's office reported.
"Under the procedural guidance of the Sumy Regional Prosecutor's Office, a pretrial investigation is being conducted into the fact of violation of the laws and customs of war [Part 1 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine]," the report says.
According to the investigation, on September 1 at about 20:50 the enemy launched a missile strike on a residential area in Sumy.
The missile hit the orphanage, which is surrounded by high-rise buildings.
By that time, there were no children in the institution, the prosecutor's office noted.
However, 18 residents of nearby houses were injured, including three boys, aged 7, 9 and 13, three girls, aged 7, 15 and 17, nine women and three men.
Also six multi-story buildings and the Sumy Center for Social and Psychological Rehabilitation of Children of the Region were damaged.
Law enforcement officers are documenting the aftermath of the shelling.
