No threat of Kyiv HPP dam break – Ukrhydroenergo head
Currently, there is no threat of a dam break at Kyiv hydroelectric power station and nearby areas, or flooding as a result of the Russian attack on the facility on August 26, said Ihor Syrota, CEO of Ukrhydroenergo.
"Today, the debris from the strikes is being cleared. We cannot yet fully assess all the technical consequences: what we have lost, and how long it will take to recover. However, today there is no threat of the dam break or flooding," he said.
According to him, not a single worker was injured during the attack on the station, since all the hydroelectric power station employees were in shelters.
"The most important thing for us is to save people, and we will restore and rebuild everything else. It is a matter of finance, time and human resources to restore all this," the CEO noted.
As he informed, Kyiv hydroelectric power station continues to operate in a stable mode for itself after the attack, and the consequences of the missile strike on the station will be finally established by the end of this week.
Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, about 130 strikes have been carried out on Ukrhydroenergo stations. Currently, Kakhovka hydroelectric power station has been lost and Dniprovska hydroelectric power station is not working. The company's other hydroelectric power stations and pumped storage power plants are in the process of restoration.
As the CEO added, there is no Ukrhydroenergo station that has not been damaged, and the company has lost more than 40% of its generation because of massive enemy attacks. However, hydroelectric generation continues to provide the energy system with balancing capacities, as far as current capabilities allow.
