Zelenskyy announces disclosure of details on POW swap procedure
The issue of releasing Ukrainian citizens from the Russian captivity was discussed at a meeting of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief's Staff Headquarters on Thursday, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said Thursday, adding that some details of the prisoner swap procedure should be made public.
"Today, at the HQ meeting, a strategy of bringing our people back from the Russian captivity was presented. There are many delicate details. When it comes to the formation of the lists. When it comes to work with our partners," he said in a video address.
"I instructed GUR [the Main Intelligence Directorate], the Interior Ministry, the SBU [Security Service of Ukraine], the AFU [Armed Forces of Ukraine] to make public the details our people should know on how we bring our prisoners of war back. I also instructed to involve in this work the non-governmental organizations of the relatives of Ukrainian military and civilians who are in captivity now," the head of state said.
As reported on Thursday morning, the SBU Special Operations Center A captured 102 servicemen of the 488th Guards Motorized Rifle Regiment from Russia and the Akhmat unit. It was also reported earlier, that the AFU captured more than 100 Russian military on Wednesday. In the previous days, capturing of several hundreds of Russian servicemen was also reported.
President Zelenskyy thanked Ukrainian military for "the replenishment of the prisoner exchange fund."
"Hundreds of Russian soldiers have already surrendered, and all of them will receive humane treatment – they did not have such treatment even in their own, Russian army," he said in an address on Wednesday.
