Residents of frontline communities to harvest firewood for free – Shmyhal

Residents of the frontline communities will be able to harvest firewood in forests for their household needs free of charge, Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal has said.

"During the offsite meetings of the government, we took under control the issue of harvesting firewood. Today, by a separate instruction, we are creating broader opportunities for this. Residents of the frontline communities will be able to harvest firewood for their household needs free of charge without damage to our forests," he said at a meeting of the government on Tuesday.

The Ministry of Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories of Ukraine said in a statement that residents of the territories where hostilities are taking place will be able to harvest firewood for domestic needs free of charge. In particular, it is about logging residues.

However, the harvesting will be allowed if relevant forestry areas are safe.

"Local military administrations (local self-government agencies) will inform the population about the possibility of firewood harvesting. This rule will be in effect during the martial law and for six months from the date of its termination or cancellation," the ministry said.
