Most difficult period in energy system behind, Sept-Oct can pass with minimal power restrictions – Ukrenergo head

The situation in the energy system will gradually improve and Ukraine can pass September-October with minimal electricity restrictions or without them at all, if this is not affected by shelling by Russian aggressors, said Volodymyr Kudrytsky, Chairman of the Board of Ukrenergo.

"I am always quite cautious about forecasts, because there is at least one factor of uncertainty - enemy shelling. If to rule out it [shelling] and the abnormal climatic conditions observed recently, it looks like the situation will gradually improve. First, new generating capacities will be taken out of repairs according to schedule. We have a fairly good chance in September-October of getting through with minimal outages, much smaller than now, or without any outages at all," he said at a briefing at the Ukraine Media Center in Kyiv on Friday.

At the same time, he noted that July was obviously the most difficult month of the summer, but the most difficult period is already behind.

As for forecasts for a longer period, according to Kudrytsky, everything depends on the nature of the shelling.

"We need to maximize our readiness: that of power plants, networks, communities. This includes providing backup power sources for critical infrastructure facilities and readiness at the household level. We are all preparing. Ukrenergo calculates the worst-case scenarios, we cannot afford to be optimistic and must prepare for difficult conditions, based on which we determine our course of action," Kudrytsky explained.

He emphasized that, with the exception of those company facilities that are subject to constant attacks by Russia and where restoration work has to be carried out, the main network is ready to fully provide consumption of each region, not only in the summer, but also in the winter.
