URCS mobile medical teams assist over 1 mln people since start of war
Since the beginning of the full-scale aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine (February 24, 2022), over one million people have received primary medical care from specialists of the Ukrainian Red Cross Society (URCS) mobile medical teams.
"Currently, 124 Ukrainian Red Cross Society mobile medical teams regularly travel to the most remote settlements in the country, where people have limited access to medical services," the Ukrainian Red Cross Society reported on Facebook on Wednesday.
The URCS reminded that the first mobile medical teams appeared in 2015 and operated in Donetsk and Luhansk regions, providing primary medical care to residents of the war-affected areas. After Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the need for mobile medical teams sharply increased, as many people evacuated to small settlements in the country where access to medical services was limited, and in many communities, the medical infrastructure was damaged or completely destroyed.
"In order for people to receive quality medical services, the activities of the mobile medical teams were quickly scaled across the country. By April 2022, the mobile medical teams had already made their first trips to the newly de-occupied Kyiv region," the URCS said.
Specialists from the mobile medical teams provide consultations, conduct patient examinations, prescribe treatments, transport people to hospitals, and assist victims at the sites of emergency response operations. Their main task is to provide timely medical assistance where there are no medical facilities or access to them is difficult.
