Stefanishyna: I don't see how US presidential election can affect process of Ukraine's membership in EU

Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine Olha Stefanishyna does not see how the U.S. presidential election can affect the process of Ukraine's membership in the European Union.

"I feel quite confident in terms of future elections in the United States. I do not see how they can affect the process of Ukraine's membership in the European Union. They also cannot influence the rollback of those decisions that were taken at the NATO Summit, since their implementation does not need the consensus of the allies," Stefanishyna said on the air of the national telethon on Monday.

She also expressed confidence that under any U.S. president, Congress would not be ready to turn off this course.

Among other things, the Deputy Prime Minister noted that Europe had been preparing for the U.S. elections for a long time, and the entire period since the beginning of 2024 has been with the preparation of certain fuses if the situation in the United States changes significantly.

Earlier on Monday, Stefanishyna said that U.S. support for Ukraine should be maintained and remain bipartisan under any conditions.

As previously reported, Biden announced that he was leaving the presidential race, but would continue to fulfill his duties until the end of his tenure. He called on the Democratic Party to nominate the incumbent Vice President of the United States Kamala Harris as a presidential candidate.
