Mobile communication depends on availability of electricity during charging period of backup power sources - Kyivstar
Uninterrupted mobile communication critically depends on the availability of electricity during the time required to fully charge backup power equipment, the press service of the largest mobile operator Kyivstar reported.
“It is worth noting that Kyivstar has already invested more than UAH 1 billion in the energy independence of its network and continues to work to strengthen the stability of communications during outages. However, to ensure uninterrupted communications, the availability of electricity for the time required for a full charge of backup power equipment is critical,” the Kyivstar press service responded to the Interfax-Ukraine agency with a request to comment on the order of the National Center for Operational and Technical Management of Telecommunications according to which mobile operators must provide alternative power sources to 60% of base stations by October 1 and 100% by February 1, 2025.
Kyivstar emphasized that ensuring reliable communications for Ukrainians is a key priority of the company as the largest electronic communications operator in Ukraine, especially in wartime.
“In our work, we always adhere to all the requirements of the current legislation of Ukraine,” the press service noted.
The company reported that Kyivstar supports the desire of the president of Ukraine to provide Ukrainians with reliable communications during the war. Together with the industry and in cooperation with the relevant government authorities, the company is carefully studying center order No. 539/2344 of July 15, 2024 on amendments to order 154/1959 on ensuring the stability of electronic communication networks in conditions of martial law.
The company emphasized that they are working to analyze the current situation of the network work during outages and assess the possibilities of implementing the requirements of the order, taking into account all objective external factors and the extremely difficult situation in the state’s energy industry.
It was previously reported that Kyivstar is expanding its network of generators by 36.5%, having purchased 848 stationary devices that have greater power compared to portable generators. At the beginning of July, the company reported that 2,322 generators support the operation of key Kyivstar telecom infrastructure facilities. Since the beginning of 2022, some 1.3 million liters of diesel fuel and more than 500,000 liters of gasoline have been used to ensure their operation.
