Hazing is rare among reasons for military convictions – Supreme Court president
The share of crimes committed by military personnel against their leadership and other military personnel is insignificant; in 2023, sentences for such crimes amounted to less than 1% of the total number of crimes against military service, President of the Supreme Court Stanislav Kravchenko said, citing statistics from the State Judicial administration.
Clarifying in an exclusive interview with Interfax-Ukraine whether crimes committed by the military against the military themselves, cases of hazing, are common, Kravchenko said: "Out of the total number of those convicted of crimes [against military service] this is only from 0.1 to 1%."
"The State Judicial administration takes into account these criminal offenses in the same way as other military offenses, without assigning them to a specific category," Kravchenko said.
"I can recite a few figures from the State Judicial administration's registration data. Last year, 30 people were convicted of threatening or violence against a superior, three people were convicted of resisting a superior, while 18 people were convicted of violating the statutory rules of relations between military personnel in the absence of a relationship of subordination," the Supreme Court's president said.
