Inflation in Ukraine in April 2024 falls to 0.2%, y-o-y remains at 3.2% – statistics

Consumer prices growth in Ukraine in April 2024 decreased to 0.2% from 0.5% in March, 0.3% in February, and 0.4% in January, the State Statistics Service reported on Friday.

The agency reminded that in April 2023, the price growth was also 0.2%, so the annual inflation by the end of April of this year remained at the level of 3.2%, as in March, while in February it was 4.3%, in January it was 4.7%, and in December 2023 it was 5.1%.

It is indicated that in April 2024, the core inflation fell to 0.7% from 1% in March, 0.4% in February-January. Considering that in April 2023, the core inflation was 0.5%, in annual terms, it increased to 4.4% by the end of the previous month from 4.2% by the end of March, however, this figure is lower than the end of February - 4.5% and the end of January - 4.6%.

According to statistics, in April compared to March of this year, prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages on the consumer market fell by 0.3%. Eggs became cheaper the most (by 19.2%). Prices for sugar, lard, grain processing products, vegetables, milk decreased by 2.4-0.3%. Prices for beef, butter, fish and fish products, non-alcoholic beverages, bread, sunflower oil, dairy products, and fruits increased by 1.2–0.6%.

Prices for alcoholic beverages and tobacco products grew by 0.6%, which is associated with an increase in tobacco products by 1.3%.

Clothing and footwear prices rose by 0.9%, including footwear - by 1.3%, clothing - by 0.5%.

The 1.4% price increase in the healthcare sector primarily occurred due to an increase in prices for pharmaceutical products by 1.9%.

Transportation prices grew by 2.1% last month mainly due to the rise in fuel and lubricant prices by 3.7%.

As reported, inflation in Ukraine in 2023 fell to 5.1% after jumping to 26.6% in 2022 from 10.0% in 2021.

The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) at the end of April 2024 improved the inflation forecast for 2024 from 8.6% to 8.2% and worsened it for 2025 from 5.8% to 6%.
