European partners not yet contact Energy Ministry on continuation of gas transit from Russia – Deputy Minister

European partners have not officially contacted the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine regarding the extension of gas transportation services from the Russian Federation from January 2025 due to the end of the transit contract at the end of this year, Deputy Energy Minister Svitlana Hrynchuk said.

"Our partners have not officially contacted us regarding the continuation of gas transit from the Russian Federation," she told reporters on the sidelines of the forum "Results of the 2023/2034 heating season: the economy under fire" organized by the Centre for Economic Recovery, which took place in Kyiv on Friday.

"I know that they are currently having discussions internally regarding this. I think closer to mid-spring there will be more clarity," the deputy minister added.

At the same time, she noted that, in particular, during a recent meeting of energy ministers in Paris, many of them informed the Ukrainian delegation "about a significant reduction in dependence on Russian gas."

"For example, the Italian minister noted that his country does not need Russian resources. Austria made a similar statement. The European Commission is also actively looking for other ways to supply or reduce consumption," Hrynchuk described the situation.
