Mobile communications operator lifecell to challenge refusal of competition agency to admit price violations by Vodafone Ukraine, Kyivstar in some regions

The mobile communications operator lifecell does not agree with the refusal of the Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine to admit violations by Vodafone Ukraine and Kyivstar in part of the alleged increase of prices of calls to other operators' networks in some regions of Ukraine and will demand the fully-featured investigation into the issues, the department of corporate communications at lifecell has reported.

According to the operator, a significant amount of questions on the essence of violations was not investigated and covered by the committee.

"The company does not agree with the decision of the committee to close the proceedings in the case and will require a full, comprehensive and transparent study of all these issues," lifecell said.

In 2015, lifecell applied to the Antimonopoly Committee with a statement about the violation of the legislation of Ukraine on the protection of economic competition in the form of abuse of a monopoly (dominant) position in the market, namely the setting of inflated prices in some without any valid reason, by Vodafone Ukraine and Kyivstar.

Lifecell said that in a situation where the dominant operator sets too high tariffs for calls to other operators in the region where it has the largest market share, there is a barrier to changing the operator, because when you try to switch to a more advantageous operator's tariff plan with a smaller market share, the subscriber loses the circle of contacts that use the services of the dominant operator: the cost of a call to the numbers of another operator for them is quite high.
