Maintaining banking secrecy remains one of fundamental tasks of NBU - head
Maintaining banking secrecy remains one of the fundamental tasks of the National Bank of Ukraine, which is becoming especially relevant in light of Ukraine's integration into the EU, where banking secrecy is also a very important entity and institution, said NBU head Andriy Pyshnyy.
"Banking secrecy is what defines the banking sector as a separate, one might say, layer in social interaction and one of the subjects of democracy protection. Without banking secrecy, it is impossible to imagine either effective banking activity or public trust in the legal financial system," he said in an interview with the Interfax-Ukraine agency.
As reported, the discussion on access to banking secrecy has recently intensified in the context of the fight against tax evasion and financial violations.
"We are having this discussion and our position is as follows: this admission must be clearly regulated, controlled, justified and in no case unlimited," Pyshnyy noted.
