USAID's assistance package to Ukrenergo exceeds $126 mln since war has begun

Since the start of the full-scale invasion, the support package for NPC Ukrenergo from the USAID Energy Security Project has surpassed $126 million, according to the transmission system operator.

"In addition to equipment aid, USAID is also assisting in the construction of protective structures at key Ukrenergo facilities. This helps safeguard the most valuable and scarce equipment from enemy air attacks," the operator stated in a Friday Telegram post following a meeting between the company's Director of Investments, Oleh Pavlenko, and USAID Administrator Samantha Power.

Ukrenergo said that part of the provided equipment has already been delivered and is in use, while other equipment has been contracted. They highlighted the importance of this assistance for Ukraine's energy security and resilience, especially considering the long production times for certain equipment, such as autotransformers.

Pavlenko and Power also visited an energy facility in western Ukraine, where they observed the operation of equipment kept running thanks to American support, which helped repair and replace damaged infrastructure.

On October 4, USAID Administrator Samantha Power announced the delivery of materials to protect Ukraine’s energy infrastructure from Russian attacks. "Brave energy workers in Ukraine risk their lives to protect vital infrastructure from Putin's attacks. USAID is helping Ukraine protect substations like this one in Western Ukraine, providing 10K tons of rebar and 200 miles of steel mesh to secure facilities across the country," Power wrote on social media.
