'Fight or Work' principle aimed at bringing economy out of shadows, returning refugees from abroad – PM

The "Fight or Work" principle announced by Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal involves a number of measures to bring the country's economy out of the shadows and focuses on the return of Ukrainian refugees.

"There are a number of measures to bring [the economy] out of the shadows, to give the opportunity (to come out of the shadows) not only to those people who work in Ukraine and receive their salaries in envelopes, which is unacceptable, but also our key task is to create conditions when we can bring people back from abroad," the prime minister said at the "Ukraine 2024. Independence" forum in Kyiv on Tuesday.

"This is also our strategy: to bring back people who can work here and pay taxes here, to support our Defense Forces," Shmyhal specified.

According to him, in order to financially support the security and defense sector, Ukraine must have 10 million jobs, while according to official data, their number is less than 8 million.

The prime minister added that now there are a number of professions in the economy that do not pay taxes that are critical for the state budget.
