Need for electricity export after Russian attack to disappear for some time – PM's Advisor
The need to open a corridor for electricity export during the surplus hours, which is already being recorded in the energy system, will disappear at least until a new energy balance is formed after the Russian attack on Ukraine on Monday, according to Prime Minister's Advisor, member of the Supervisory Board of NPC Ukrenergo Yuriy Boiko.
"Certainly, the need to open even a temporary corridor for electricity export will disappear for a significant period of time, at least until the final analysis of the situation and understanding of the new energy balance, which we will have to live with in the near future until the consequences of today's attack are eliminated," Boiko said at a briefing in the Ukrainian media center in Kyiv on Monday.
At the same time, he explained that the resumption of electricity exports during certain surplus hours would help optimize the financial and economic activities of Ukrenergo and reduce the financial burden on domestic consumers. According to him, for example, on Sunday, in order to balance the energy system, producers of electricity from renewable energy sources were limited by 1,000 MW during the period of solar activity, but Ukrenergo must pay for the unused resource from its tariff.
According to Boiko, electricity exports in such cases would be economically justified and a much better option than restrictions on producers.
Earlier, on Friday, Ukrenergo stated that Ukraine could return to electricity exports during daytime hours from Sunday, August 25, when there is a surplus in the energy system. Data on electricity exports and imports in Ukraine are not displayed on the ENTSO-E website.
