Ukraine to receive $3.9 bln in budget aid from USA – Finance Ministry
Ukraine's Finance Minister Serhiy Marchenko and World Bank Regional Director for Eastern Europe Bob Saum signed an agreement that will soon see Ukraine receive a grant of almost $3.9 billion from the United States for its state budget, the Ministry of Finance reported on Thursday.
"The funds will be allocated for salaries of teachers, emergency services personnel, government employees, and to support priority social expenditures (assistance to internally displaced persons, low-income families, and people with disabilities)," the ministry said.
This will be the first tranche of direct budget support from the United States this year, with the total planned financial aid from the United States for the current year reaching $7.8 billion.
"The effective work of the government, along with significant support from international partners, ensures the stability of the financial system amid Russia's full-scale armed aggression against Ukraine. I am grateful to the United States and the World Bank team for their cooperation, resulting in the mobilization of critical resources. This is essential and timely funding to maintain the liquidity of the state budget," said Marchenko, commenting on the signing of the agreement.
The funds will be channeled through the World Bank Public Expenditures for Administrative Capacity Endurance project (PEACE in Ukraine).
